Joining the Road Warrior Tour on the visual tip is Strangeloop, a producer in his own right who also happens to create cutting-edge visual stimulation. Part of the arts-forward crew and record label Brainfeeder, Strangeloop can often be found sidled up to the stage at some of the biggest shows in LA, bouncing next to his laptop while projecting psychedelic dreamscapes for open-mouthed crowds.

Strangeloop’s visuals weave through the beats to penetrate your brain: cutouts of steel-colored clouds, stuttering apocalypse cartoons, gold women from another universe, vibrating designs of screaming boxes, all perfectly timed and twirling and swirling with each booming beat. Every new sound and picture seems to stimulate a different area of your brain, and as it scrambles to keep up and connect all the pieces, your whole mind is illuminated and aroused and flailing in exhilaration.

If you aren’t familiar with Gonjasufi, imagine psychedelics in human skin, a living mystic whose eyes are doorways to other dimensions. His latest album, a collaboration with The Gaslamp Killer called A Sufi and A Killer, was heralded for its raw and restless sounds, but most of all for Gonjasufi’s voice, described as “timeless filth” (Flying Lotus) and “a scraggly, scary, smoked-out croak that creeps like the spiritual offspring of George Clinton and Leadbelly.” His performances are mesmerizing, and his influence undulates in the realm of spiritual electronica.

On the Road Warrior Tour, Gonjasufi’s DJ will be Tony Nickel Bag from Crime/Crime Killz, an 8-bit punkhop band releasing on Sufi’s A.I.R. label. Nickel Bag will be djing for Sufi and playing off his Gameboy – with gear smashing a distinct possibility.
