His pounding style of new dubstep, grime, and electronic hip-hop make his records stand out in the ears of the listeners. After years of childhood classical performances around the world, he knew that music was his calling. While on tour in Europe, he first heard hip-hop and electronic music from a tour manager who played him cassettes of Aphex Twin and Digable Planets. Both albums blew his mind in completely different directions, and at that moment he knew his path in life was to make electronic music. A few years later, DNAE acquired a DR770 sequencer. After two years of nonstop button-pushing and perfecting his sound, he signed deals with Twenty Four Seven Records in Sweden, a deal with MF Grimm’s label, Day By Day Entertainment, and a deal with Brooklyn’s Sound-Ink Records. He has produced songs for plenty of classic underground hip-hop artists including Monsta Island Czars, Mr. Lif, MF Grimm, Gift of Gab, Lateef The Truthspeaker, The Shapeshifters, Ellay Khule of Project Blowed, The Visionaries, Z-Man, Azeem, and The Team. In 2004, Eternal Autumn was released in Europe and sold out in less than two months. Meanwhile, back in San Francisco, DNAE joined forces with the legendary Gift of Gab from Blackalicious, and the fire was lit. DNAE went on to produce the majority of Gift of Gab’s Supreme Lyricism and was invited back to produce all of Gab’s full-length album, Escape to Mars, which was released in 2009. Songs El Gifto and Lightyears gained top 10 praise from Radio Nova in Paris and Triple J Radio in Sydney. In November 2010, DNAE’s new album Secrets Worth Dying was released on Seclusiasis, and within the first week was rated #1 on Beatport’s Must Have Hip-Hop, Top 10 on Serato’s White Label, and #17 on Juno’s Dubstep Chart! DNAE’s Brazilian Bug Bite was featured in BBC’s Radio 1Xtra’s Dubstep Takeover as well as songs featured on Ministry of Sound, K-Mag, Bassfaced, and XLR8R. Tastemakers such as J. Scarlett and MyManHenri have been supporting DNAE’s sound for many years now. While DNAE is known for his work with MCs as well as being Gift of Gab’s touring DJ for the last three years, his live solo set has been turning major heads and is the main focus for this year and the years to come! His mix of all-original tracks, ranging from bass-throbbing dubstep to mind-lifting smoked out beats, has been packing venues all over. His music has been used in sets by Bassnectar, Lazer Sword, Elliot Lipp, Starkey, Chief Xcel, DJ D-Styles, Daddy Kev, and DJ Vadim. DNAE has shared the stage with many artists including LCD Soundsystem, Flying Lotus, Major Lazer, Biz Markie, Zakir Hussian, Sun Ra Arkesta, Talib Kweli, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, The Disco Biscuits, Ween, Rusko, Kool Keith, Thievery Corporation, STS9, Diplo, Method Man, Ghostface, Raekwon, Dieselboy, Caribou, The Glitch Mob, The Clipse, K’naan, Living Legends, Mary Anne Hobbs, Bela Fleck, Mixmaster Mike, Kavinsky, Little Dragon, Gaslamp Killer, Lauryn Hill, Hieroglyhics, Lazer Sword, Daedelus, Plastician, DJ Tipper, EOTO, Girl Talk, King Britt, Mickey Factz, Freestyle Fellowship, Exile, Lyrics Born, Goapele, Kraddy, Mount Kimbie, Joy Orbison, Kode 9, Gonjasufi, Roska, Terror Danjah, NastyNasty, and Rass Kass. Producer Extraordinaire!!! - XLR8R Magazine Melancholic, electronic-tinged production. - Spin Magazine San Francisco’s next big beat. - San Francisco Chronicle DNAE BEATS is a SF-centered artist who splices multiple genres into a mutant sound all his own. His much heralded mixtape “There’s A Wormhole In My Bathroom” is aptly-titled and must-download. As an accomplished hip-hop beat maker (working with the likes of Gift of Gab) and a producer in his own right, DNAE seamlessly weaves together hyphy, dubstep, electro, and experimental into a sonic fabric that sounds like it was teleported through a tear in the time-space continuum. - San Francisco Examiner + Book This Artist |
